Torrid Tuesday Then Strong Storms Possible Wednesday

It's early June but it will feel more like July today as we flirt with a record high temperature. The record for today's date is 92° set in both 1895 and 1944. The HRRR model has O'Hare topping out at 93°. Anything from 91° or warmer would represent the hottest day since July 20th last year when the high hit 95°. So today will probably be the hottest day in over 10 months. High humidity will make it feel like the middle 90s.

Strong southwest breezes combined with plenty of sunshine will push today's highs into record territory. After today's heat the focus shifts to the possibility of a few stronger storms on Wednesday.

The first round of stronger storms will favor our northern suburbs late tonight and early Wednesday morning (before daybreak). The main threat of severe weather would be large hail and damaging winds.

Another round of storms could fire up Wednesday afternoon along and south of I-80. Large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain would be the main threat from this second round.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of our area in a marginal risk of severe weather. A marginal risk by definition means isolated severe thunderstorms possible. Areas well south of the city are in the slight risk category which means scattered sever thunderstorms possible.

So most of northern Illinois is in either a level 1 or 2 out of possible 5 severe weather threat.

Looking longer range the forecast keeps June warm through the middle of the month. Both the 6-10 day outlook and 8-14 day outlook of temperature probability favors us for above average temperatures overall from June 7th through June 15th.

Here is my 7 day forecast:
