This Too Shall Melt

Snow in April sucks. Pardon my language but this is getting ridiculous. The good thing about snow in April is that it doesn't stick around usually. Today's snow will be gone by the end of the weekend.

A combination of warmer temperatures and a strong southwest wind will eat away at the snow on Saturday. Highs will be approaching 60° and winds will be gusting to over 40 mph. Best of all, there will be a lot of sunshine on Saturday.

I will go out on a prognostic limb and say that this should be the last of snow for this spring. Models are indicating a return to at least average temps for most of next week which means highs near 60°. Thursday marked the first day of spring that we begin to average a high of 60°. May 15th marks the first day we start to average a high of 70° and June 15th marks the first day we begin to average a high of 80°.

This is the first time in several weeks that both the 6-10 day and 8-14 day temperature probability outlook both do not have the Chicago area in a shade of blue. Blue means a probability of below average temperatures overall for the period. We are in the normal range from April 22 through the end of the month.

More good news for warm weather fans for the end of spring and start of summer. The Climate Prediction Center looooong range forecast for May, June and July has most of the country outlooked for above average temperatures overall through the end of spring and start of summer. None of the US is favored for below average temperatures during those three months.

Here is my 7 day forecast:

Today: Light snow early then becoming partly sunny High: 42

Saturday: Partly to mostly sunny, windy & warmer Low: 32 High: 58

Sunday: A.M. light rain possible, partly to mostly cloudy Low: 43 High: 56 (50 Lakefront)

Monday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 37 High: 60

Tuesday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 42 High: 59 (53 Lakefront)

Wednesday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 40 High: 61

Thursday: Partly to mostly cloudy, pm sct. showers Low: 45 High: 63
