Sunshine Today But Big Snow Possible This Weekend
I'm doing the earrrrrly shift on CBS 2 Chicago today so here is a video version of my forecast:
As I mentioned, this storm is a couple thousand of miles away and just coming into reach for the models to get a good sample of it. In other words, these snowfall #'s aren't written in stone. A slight shift in the track could drastically change our outlook but it does appear likely parts of the Midwest will get hit hard this weekend. The timing for us would be late Saturday into Sunday but snow could linger well into Sunday night. It looks like mostly snow for us but a mix can't be ruled out south of the city.
The GFS model snowfall accumulation forecast through Monday morning is suggesting a little over a half a foot of snow is possible in total. Most would fall Saturday night into Sunday morning.
The European model forecast suggests a range of around 4" north of the city to 10" well south with most of us in the 5" to 8" range.
