Settling Down After Stormy Start To Week

After our stormy start to the week on Monday the weather pattern will be a bit more settled the next few days. O'Hare had record rainfall for the 22nd with 1.55 inches reported there. The deficit for the month has now fallen to just .07" below average. The National Weather Service put together a summary of some of the severe weather reports from Monday.

A cooler and more quiet pattern through Thursday is expected. Today's highs will be 10° or more cooler than yesterday. Expect lower to middle 70s this afternoon.

We will be stuck with highs in the 70s through tomorrow. The GFS temperature anomaly forecast for Wednesday has the midwest and most of the eastern half of the country around 5-10° below average.

While our weather pattern will be less active through at least Thursday it doesn't mean we will be rain free. There will be some spotty showers and thunderstorms possible today and Wednesday, primarily in the late afternoon and evening hours but most of the next few days should be dry. The most active part of the next ten days will be late in the weekend and into early next week according to the GFS meteogram forecast. The higher the bars climb, the more rain expected during those periods.

The total rainfall accumulation suggested by the GFS model through midnight Sunday is anywhere between a little over an inch of rain to nearly three inches in the far northwestern suburbs. The heaviest rain by far though will fall across central and southern Wisconsin.

The cool change today and tomorrow won't last long. We will warm up by the end of the week well into the 80s and stay warmer than average through the weekend. The longer range 6-10 day and 8-14 day temperature probability forecasts keeps the heat coming through the first week of July. We are outlooked for above average temperatures overall from June 22nd through July 6th.
