Near Normal For Now But Heat Hits This Weekend

Just one day this month has seen average temperatures but the other 21 have been above average. More typical July temperatures expected through Thursday before heat and humidity build back this weekend. Today's highs will be in the middle 80s right up through the lakefront.

There could be a few scattered showers or thunderstorms south of I-80 today but most of the area will be dry. The GFS model hints at a slight chance for a spotty shower late today and tonight but keeps us basically dry until Sunday night. More active weather next week with some storms possible late Monday into Tuesday and again Thursday and Friday.

The real weather story is the return of more heat and humidity just in time for the weekend. The hourly forecast has highs in the lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday combined with dew points in the lower to middle 70s. That combination will yield heat index values near or just above 100°.

The long range temperature probability forecasts keep us above average through the start of August. The temperature probability forecasts has us outlooked for above average temperatures overall from July 27th through August 4.

Here is my 7 day forecast:

Today: Partly to mostly cloudy, seasonably warm High: 85

Thursday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 69 High: 82 (78 Lakefront)

Friday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 70 High: 89 (82 Lakefront)

Saturday: Partly to mostly sunny, hot & humid Low: 74 High: 92

Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny, hot & humid Low: 75 High: 93

Monday: Partly to mostly sunny, sct. showers & t-storms Low: 74 High: 91

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, hit or miss shower/t-storm possible Low: 72 High: 88
