Muggy Monday But Cooler Air Coming

Sunday was a SCORCHER! 95° at O'Hare for the high temperature. That marks the 20th time O'Hare has hit a high of 90° or hotter. The average number of 90° days for an entire year is 14! No more 90s at least through Friday as a shift to a cooler pattern kicks in. It might be cooler today with highs in the middle 80s but it will still be a muggy Monday. The dew points will drop late today and set us up for a more comfortable rest of the week.

The hourly forecast for O'Hare shows the dew points dropping from the lower 70s to the lower 60s by this evening. They continue to drop Tuesday into the upper 50s by the middle of the day.

Most of this week should be dry but some scattered showers and Thunderstorms possible on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be many dry hours both of those days too.

The longer range forecasts continue to hint at if not a cooler pattern coming then at least one that isn't as hot as we've seen so often this summer. The 6-10 day temperature probability forecast has us outlooked to be near normal and the 8-14 day has s favored for above average temperatures overall.

The longer range forecasts have been consistently hinting at a cooler pattern for the middle of next month. The NCEP/GEFS temperature anomaly forecast for the week ending August 21st has the coolest anomalies center right over Chicago and the midwest.

Looking even longer range the Climate Prediction Center has us favored for above average temperatures overall from August through October. Every portion of the contiguous United States and Alaska are favored for above average temperatures. Every three month temperature probability forecast through the end of the year (September through October and October through December) has only shades of brown and red and no blues on the map. In other words, none of those forecasts has any part of the country favored for below average temperatures overall.

Here is my 7 day forecast:

Today: Partly/mostly cloudy, sct. shower/t-storm possible High: 85 Tuesday: Mostly sunny Low: 68 High: 87 Wednesday: Partly to mostly sunny, isolate t-storm possible Low: 68 High: 85 Thursday: Partly to mostly cloudy Low: 67 High: 81

Friday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 64 High: 82 Saturday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 64 High: 83 Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 65 High: 84
