More Tropical Mugginess Today Then A Beautiful Weekend

The remnants of what was once tropical storm Cristobal are moving out but lingering tropical moisture will make it feel muggy today. The tropical system maintained enough strength as it swept through the midwest to produce gusty thunderstorms, down power lines and even spin up a possible tornado in Iroquois County.

Today will be the 10th straight days with temperatures above average. Yesterday's high hit 91°. It was the third time this month with a high of 90° or warmer. June so far has been running about 9.4° above average. Highs should reach into the lower 80s for most areas but cooler along the lakefront with lower 70s there.

Can't rule out a spotty shower or thunderstorm today especially from late morning into the early afternoon hours. Beyond that though the models keep us dry for most of the next nine days at least. There is a slight chance late Friday for a spotty shower but it will be basically dry after today through the following Friday next week.

Even though any thunderstorms today will be widely scattered the storms that do fire up could be strong or even severe. The Storm Prediction Center keeps most of the Chicagoland area in a marginal risk for severe weather and anywhere from a slight to moderate risk for northern Indiana. The main risk here with these storms would be damaging winds.

Looking longer range the 6-10 day and 8-14 day temperature probability forecast both have us outlooked for above average temperatures overall. This would mean a warm middle and possibly end to June. This marks a reversal from earlier longer range forecasts that had been suggesting a cooler end to the month.

Looking even longer range it now appears that not only will this month end warmer than average but July could start off that way too. The multi-ensemble temperature anomaly forecast for the week ending July 3rd has us outlooked for above average temperatures overall. This too is a reversal from earlier long range outlooks for this period that had been suggesting a cooler than average start to July.

Here is my 7 day forecast:
