Hot Monday Then Windy & Wet Middle Of The Week

The sunshine we enjoyed over the weekend will continue to shine on this Monday. Today's sun will be accompanied by a southeast breeze that will help push our highs into the lower 90s. This will be the third time this year we hit a high of 90° or warmer. The only exception will be along the lakefront, especially north of the city, where an onshore wind will keep highs cooler in the upper 70s.

The heat today will nearly be repeated tomorrow with highs near 90°. Notice on the hourly forecast below that the heat index (what the combination of heat and humidity feels like) nearly matches the temperature. The humidity won't be out of control but it will be a bit more muggy on this Monday. The winds will pick up by Tuesday afternoon as the remnants of what was once tropical storm Cristobal arrives. Expect gusts to reach 40 mph or more late Tuesday and into early Wednesday. The greatest chance of rain will be Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning.

The GFS model has consistently kept the heaviest rain to our west. The total precipitation accumulation forecast has 1-2" falling in parts of Missouri, Iowa, western Wisconsin and Minnesota. It shows about a third of an inch of rain here. However, because of the abundant tropical moisture sweeping into the midwest, some thunderstorms could still produce locally heavy rain here.

Some of the storms later Tuesday into Tuesday night could be strong. The Storm Prediction Center has most of Chicagoland in a marginal risk for severe weather with areas well south of the city and in northern Illinois in a slight risk.

Here is the SPC's definition of those risks:

Today will be the eighth straight day with above average temperatures. Only one day in the last 19 has been below average. Cooler could be coming though for the middle of this month. The 6-10 day temperature probability forecast has a strong signal for below average temperatures overall for June 13th through the 17th. The 8-14 day forecast has us with an equal chance at either below average or above average temps overall for June 15th through the 21st.

Here is my 7 day forecast: Today: Sunny & hot High: 91 (78 Lakefront) Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, pm shwrs & thunderstorms, windy Low: 67 High: 87 (83 Lakefront) Wednesday: Partly sunny, sct. showers (t-storm possible) Low: 66 High: 77 Thursday: Mostly sunny Low: 59 High: 79 Friday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 60 High: 72

Saturday: Mostly sunny Low: 53 High: 72 (64 Lakefront)

Sunday: Mostly sunny Low: 56 High: 77 (67 Lakefront) #ilwx
