Here Comes The Heat But Rain Holds Off Until Weekend
Yesterday was the 4th day in a row below average. O'Hare reached a high of 73° which was warmer than the 60s we saw over the weekend but still well below the average high of 80°. Today's highs will be back above average and should stay there through the weekend. Look for highs today in the middle 80s for most areas but lower 70s along the lakefront.
After today's middle 80s highs will climb to near 90° Wednesday and again Thursday. The dew point should stay in a tolerable range in the middle to upper 50s. So while the heat builds the humidity will be held in check. The heat index (what it feels like when the temperature and humidity are combined) will just about match the actual air temperature. It looks like this will be a dry heat the next few days.
More moisture will be here though by the end of the week and into the weekend. A return to a more active pattern with periods of showers and thunderstorms will begin late Friday and last into early Sunday. More rain at times expected Monday and late Wednesday into Thursday next week too. O'Hare is now running a little over an inch below normal for rainfall this month but will more than make that up during this unsettled stretch of weather.
Looking even longer range the end of June and start of July is forecast by the multi-model ensemble to be at least a bit above average overall.
