From 40s To 70s On The October Rollercoaster Ride

The Ride Is Headed Uphill

We felt the chill of fall on Sunday with temperatures holding in the 40s most of the day. I mentioned in an earlier post that it could be wintry for the second part of the weekend. Some snowflakes did fly well northwest of Chicago and even coated the ground in places like Warren in the northwest corner of Illinois. It was the coldest afternoon in over six months. October is known for its variability as summer like last gasps give way to early tastes of winter or vice versa. It could feel more like May by Thursday with highs soaring into the 70s.

It will be a slow but steady warm up but today we are still on the cooler side of average. Highs today will be 10° or more below average.

Highs climb back to about average on Wednesday. Warming to near 70° by the end of the week for Thursday and Friday. We then fall back into the 40s to near 50° for highs this weekend.

Last Of The 70s This Week?

Enjoy any 70s we are fortunate to see this week. There won't be many more this year. The average last date of a high of 70° or more is October 29th. That's just ten days away.

Both the 6-10 day and the 8-14 day temperature probability forecasts have us outlooked for colder than average temperatures overall from October 24th through November 1st.

The experimental week 3-4 temperature probability forecast suggests a milder start to next month. It has us outlooked above average overall for the first two weeks of November.

Active Pattern Might Stick Around

We have shower chances nearly ever day this week. The best chances of rain are Tuesday night into early Wednesday, Thursday and then again late Friday. There could be a few thunderstorms mixed in Thursday and Friday too.

This more active pattern could stick around through the end of the month. Both the 6-10 day and the 8-14 day precipitation probability forecasts have us outlooked overall for above average precipitation from October 24th through November 1st.

The week 3-4 experimental precipitation forecast continues the above average precipitation pattern into the first two weeks of November.

Here is my 7 day forecast:

Today: Becoming cloudy, cold, light rain mainly late High: 48

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy Low: 38 High: 54

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, shower possible late Low: 47 High: 60

Thursday: Partly to mostly cloudy, scattered showers (t-storm possible) Low: 50 High: 73

Friday: Scattered showers & thunderstorms Low: 59 High: 68

Saturday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 41 High: 50

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, sct. showers possible late Low: 38 High: 51
