Dramatic Drop In Temps Coming & Snow Back In Forecast

O'Hare's high of 80° on Tuesday was the warmest since October 1st of 2019 when the high was 86°. Some 60s and 70s today and then a dramatic drop in temperatures tomorrow with only slight recovery this weekend. No 60s or 70s in sight for at least the next week and the long range forecast is cool too.

Both the 6 to 10 day and 8 to 14 day outlook favor the midwest for below average temps overall through the middle of April (April 13-April 21). So that means we better enjoy today while we can with highs well into the 60 and maybe topping 70 from near the city on south. There could be a few gusty thunderstorms late today with hail especially south of I-80. Most of the day should end up being dry with some sun breaking through the fog by late morning.

Big shift in our weather pattern after today. We fall back into the 40s and 50s for highs with the coldest air arriving Monday with much of the day only in the 30s. A storm system this weekend will bring the colder air and as it moves through the midwest it could lay down some substantial snow north and northwest of here. The GFS model even suggesting more than a foot for parts of Wisconsin and the Up. We could see some graupel and snow showers Thursday afternoon and the weekend storm could bring a quick shot of snow as it departs late Sunday night.

Here is my 7 day forecast:

Thursday: Partly/mostly cloudy, pm rain/snow showers, windy Low 38 High: 47

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, sct. showers Low: 36 High: 54

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, on & off showers Low: 41 High: 51 (45 Lakefront)

Monday: Partly to mostly cloudy Low: 37 High: 44

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, Low: 30 High: 44
