Coolest Air Of Season So Far Settles In
September Ends With 60s, October Starts With 50s
Average high temperatures for the first time this fall drop into the 60s. The average high for September 29th is 69°. We will be nearly about 5° to 10° below average today with highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. A brisk breeze will make it feel a bit cooler.
Breezy today and then blustery tomorrow with gusts to 35 mph. Gust today will approach 25 mph and gusts tomorrow could reach 35 mph.
Cool today but October will start out with the coolest air of the season so far as highs fall into the 50s for Thursday and right through the weekend. This would be the coolest air we've seen since the middle of May. Frost isn't out of the question for areas west of the city Friday morning as lows could fall in a few spots to the middle to upper 30s. The temperature anomaly forecast for Friday morning shows most of the midwest waking up to temperatures 10° to 15° below average.
Some 70s In Our Future?
So a definite chill in the air will coincide with the start of October but looking a little longer range there is hope for milder air arriving by the middle of the month. The 6-10 temperature probability forecast has us outlooked for below average temperatures overall from October 4th through the 8th but the high probability area for above average temperatures just to our west expands and slides closer to us in the 8-14 forecast.
By the middle of the month we are outlooked to return to above average temperatures overall for the week ending on October 16th. So even though the 80s (as I blogged yesterday) may be gone for good this year there still will most likely be some 70s in our future.
Spotty Showers Today With Thunder Possible Thursday
Just two days ago we were down .05 inches of rain below average for the month. Rain since then has brought us a surplus of .16 inches as of this morning. Some more spotty afternoon September showers possible today and tomorrow then some scattered showers and even thunderstorms to start off October later Thursday into Friday. More rain could be coming on Sunday too.
When you add it all up there could be some significant rain between now and the end of the weekend. The GFS precipitation accumulation forecast suggests about a half inch to three quarters of an inch is possible.
The longer range outlook suggests we could dry out a bit by the middle of the month. Both the 6-10 and 8-14 have us outlooked for below average precipitation overall from October 4th through the 12th.
