After Yesterday's Record Heat Above Average Temps Thru The Weekend
Tuesday's high of 94° shattered the old record of 92° set in both 1944 and 1895. It should be noted that yesterday's record high is actually the coolest record high for any day in June. Still, it was a scorcher for early spring. The heat reached right up to the lakeshore with a high of 92° and Northerly Isle and 93° at Waukegan.
Above average temperatures should hang around through the weekend and at least into early next week. The weekend will be a bit cooler compared to the weekday but still manage to come in a bit above average.
Today will be at least 10° cooler than yesterday with upper 70s and low 80s.
The Storm Prediction Center has shifted both the marginal and slight risk for severe weather a bit further south. The marginal risk area is now along or south of I-80. Marginal risk means "an area of severe storms of either limited organization and longevity, or very low coverage and marginal intensity."
Today could be the most active day in terms of showers and thunderstorms through Thursday next week. Limited chances of rain after today with one coming early Friday morning and then another next Tuesday.
The HRRR model suggests about a tenth of an inch to a half inch of precipitation in total today. The next few chances of rain should see less rainfall. Most of the next seven days should feature plenty of June sunshine.
Both the 6-10 temperature probability forecast has us outlooked for above average temperatures overall from June 8th through the 12th. For the first time in several weeks the 8-14 no longer suggests a continuation of above average temps like the 6-10 day forecast. We are no outlooked for cooler than average temps overall from June 10th through the 16th.
Looking even longer range...
The multi model ensemble has most of the middle of the country outlooked for cooler than average temperatures overall for the end of June.
