70s & Storms (Maybe Strong) Next Week

We could surge into the 70s on Tuesday or nearly 20° above average. Cumulatively, Monday through Tuesday could be the warmest three day period since early October.

The meteogram below shows various computer model forecasts for temperatures through next Sunday. After 60s & 70s Tuesday and Wednesday we drop dramatically back into the 40s and 50s for the end of the week.

Chicago, O'Hare predicted temperatures

A cold front could spark some strong to severe storms on Tuesday. The Storm Prediction Center has northern Illinois in the marginal to slight risk area for severe storms. Large hail, damaging winds and even tornadoes will be a threat especially later in the day and at night Tuesday.

While there will be showers and even some thunderstorms at times next week, we aren't expecting any wash outs. There should be many dry hours too. Showers are possible late Monday, early & late Tuesday and then possible late in the day Wednesday. Lack of rainfall has not been an issue around here for a long time. The midwest has been drought free now for 21 consecutive weeks. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor the longest drought free streak for the region was the 32 week period between January 1st and August 6th 2019. Since the start of 2019 we have been drought free 53 of 66 weeks.
