70s In Forecast Followed By A Cool Down

The warmest day of the year so far should arrive on Tuesday with highs topping out in the lower 70s. That's the good news. The bad news is there are new indications the middle of this month will be cooler than average overall. The latest 6-10 and 8-14 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center suggests a cooler than average period overall from April 9th through the 17th. The signal is fairly strong for northern Illinois through the period.°

These two forecasts seem to contradict the latest forecast for the month of April which shows above average temps overall for the month here and across much of at least the eastern half of the country.

The warmest day of the year so far is forecast for Tuesday with 70s but it will be sandwiched in between cooler days with highs in the 40s and 50s this weekend and at the end of next week. The warmer days have the best chance of precipitation with some showers and possible thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday but most of the next 7 days should be dry.

Lake Michigan's cool temperatures will be the culprit for cooler than average days whenever we have a fairly strong wind off the lake. The water temperature in southern Lake Michigan is in the lower to middle 40s. We will see the influence of the lake here 5 of the next 7 days with temps "cooler near the lake". On some days that will mean highs only in the 40s lakeside.

Here is my 7 day forecast:

Today: Mostly cloudy High: 48 (45 Lakefront)

Sunday: Mostly sunny Low: 36 High: 51 (46 Lakefront)

Monday: Mostly cloudy, sct. showers Low: 39 High: 63 (56 Lakefront)

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, sct. showers & t-storms Low: 48 High: 72

Wednesday: Partly to mostly sunny Low: 50 High: 65 (60 Lakefront)

Thursday: Partly to mostly sunny Low 41 High: 54

Friday: Mostly cloudy, light rain possible Low: 37 High: 49 (44 Lakefront)
